What goes around comes around. Well, that might be the lyric of the famous pop song by Justin Timberlake; but it very much sums up the working of the fan. The device found its origins in India in 500 BCE. The very first design comprised of strips made from Bamboo or any other Plant fibre and fanned or rotated. The ancient fan was a handheld device and could be carried about from place to place. The model still exists today and is quite popular as well. Later during the Raj, the design progressed to huge flat fan designs suspended by the ceiling and pulled to-and-fro by a person assigned for the task.
It was in the year 1882 that Schuyler Skaats Wheeler invented the first electric fan. The principle of the device is comprised of the conversion of energy. In this case, it was the Electrical energy converted into Mechanical Energy when the current was allowed to pass through. The electricity flows to the Capacitor, which later transfers to the Stator Windings. This charges up the Windings causing the creation of a rotating Magnetic field. Finally, the Magnetic field causes the rotator to turn in the direction of the rotating Magnetic field.

Types of Electric Fans

Let us now take a look at the different types of fans and specifications about each:

The Ceiling Fan

One of the most common models of the electric fan is the Ceiling fan. It is usually placed at the centre of the ceiling. Usually, the designs are eye-catching as these are meant to draw your attention. When going for the ceiling fan, you must consider the size according to the size of the room. For a high ceiling, you might want to get yourself a fan with a lengthened rod. Some also include Chandelier and Embellishments. The latest aerodynamic ensure silent operation, specific blade design, and also a remote control. This is among the most popular types of fans in India and is commonly found in most homes.

The Table Fan

Table Fan

The table fan is among the popular types of fans for home, as it can be placed anywhere and moved about. The best part about this design is the fact that it can be moved in the direction you most want the breeze to flow. It usually comprises of the feature to ‘Swing’ or Stationary as required. Also known as the Personal fans, this type is one of the most preferred and can be travelled about with.

The Tower Fan

TOWER FANS

The best part about this design is the fact that it can be moved in the direction you most want the breeze to flow. It usually comprises of the feature to ‘Swing’ or Stationary as required. Also known as the Personal fans, this type is one of the most preferred and can be travelled about with.

Sometimes some of us do not have ample space for a full-fledged setup for our appliances. In such a case, the wall-mount is the best option. Some of the oldest known fan types and perhaps the most obvious ones around. The types of pedestal fans are much sought after for events, meetings, garden parties, and others. This is mainly because this fan type can cool a widespread area, a characteristic of a gathering.

Exhaust Fan

EXHAUST FANS

This is not among the types of cooling fan but is used widespread for ventilation purposes. An exhaust fan is a common fixture in small places and bathrooms and is used to expel odour, Humidity, and congested air. The best part is that the Exhaust fan is available in various sizes to suit all requirements, dimensions, and spaces.

Misting Fans

MISTING FANS

Quite uncommonly known among different types of electric fans, but Misting Fans have huge takers. This device utilises a technology that resembles the working of an Air Conditioner. This fan type comprises high-pressure pumps that are designed to push the water through openings that are nozzle-like. The droplets are micron-sized, and the fan action further thrusts the droplets into the open area, thus cooling the area in the process. The misting fan type finds great application in outdoor settings of a Swimming pool, Garden, and backyard.

Types of Industrial Fans

Now that we have discussed quite much about the fans for home let us find out what the industrial variety is all about. The Industrial fans are all about the application in warehouses, glass manufacturing industries, food manufacturing units, and others as such. Also, these are of different types; let us take a quick look at the types of fans and their uses when it comes to an industrial setup:

Centrifugal fans: Also known as Blowers, these are designed to extract harmful air at right angles. The air is pushed towards the outside radially, thus clearing the space off harmful fumes.

Axial Fans: Are designed to create a low-pressure, high-volume airflow, thus making this time much sought after for industrial purposes.

High-Pressure Fan: These are also known as low Volume and high static pressure fans, quite on a budget and perfect for combustion burner.

Multi-Vane Fans: Are found in factory locations and comprise of forwarding curved blades.

Backward Curved Fans: Not as efficient as the Backward Lamina fans, yet quite good. Are suitable for regular air clearing purposes.

Backward Lamina Fans: These feature the characteristic backward inclined blades and are widely used for various purposes

Backward Aerofoil Fans: Used in air management systems, where tremendous efficiency is required.

Types of Fans: The Conclusion

These are the different types of fans and their uses. However, one hardly finds a place where the application of a fan is not found. These are simple yet highly effective devices that can be used across backgrounds and financial constraints.
