Disadvantages of an Air Cooler

The disadvantages of an Air Cooler are plenty to consider before one finally decides to purchase one. However, one cannot deny that the Air Cooler is one of the most well-received cooling devices that people from all cultures, backgrounds, regions, and nationals prefer to buy. The air cooler is one of the most recommended air cooling devices in hot, humid climates and regions. The main work of the appliance comprises drawing in the warm air from the close vicinity, allowing it to pass through the cooling pads to absorb the heat and evaporate the water in the process. This way, the air in the vicinity is cooled down and released back into space, thus refreshing the cooling of the environment in the process.

This might sound like a simple, straightforward process; however, despite the ‘simplicity’ of the cooling action, the Air cooler is not all that safe for health. There are several cons and drawbacks of staying under the influence of the Air cooler. Most experts have proposed various ill effects on a long-term basis to the individual due to prolonged exposure to Air coolers. So, let us look at the various drawbacks of air coolers.

Disadvantages of an Air Cooler

Some of the major cons of the air cooler on health include:

1. These are not as effective in cooling the air as the traditional air cooling devices:

One can be aware that the ‘cooling effects of the air cooler are not as strong as that of the air conditioners. Hence, when purchasing an air cooler, you will be treated to a limited cooling effect due to the limited range.

2. The air cooler cannot be set at a specific temperature by the individual:

This is yet another reason to consider when using an air cooler. The appliance comprises limited functioning and features of temperature controls, which can be quite frustrating for people who might expect a bit more. Also, the cooling effect is not as advanced or proficient as the air conditioners.

3. These are not recommended for working in Humid regions and conditions:

The air coolers tend to expand or humidify the moisture in the rooms. Hence, these are not recommended for regions high in humidity or during hot and moist climates. This can, in turn, lead to the feeling of ‘hot and humid’ for the users. Prolonged use of this appliance can also lead to an increase in humidity. This, in turn, leads to an increase in infestation due to dust mites, mildew, and moulds. Hence, if the environmental conditions outside are already humid, you will only add to the overall moisture content with the evaporative Air cooler working hard to cool the air unsuccessfully. This, in turn, makes the air swampy and frizzy.

4. The user also needs to ensure a sound cleaning and maintenance routine when dealing with the Air cooler

This is a fussy appliance. The user will need to stay on their feet regarding routine cleaning and maintenance. This especially extends to the Water tank part of the Air cooler, which, if not cleaned and maintained properly, can be a breeding ground for various harmful pathogens and germs. Also, the other aspects include timely and routine filling-in of the water within the tank. This can get quite troublesome in areas that need water shortages.

5. One of the major drawbacks of Air coolers is that it is a fact quite noisy

This can be a cause of major distress for many users over a period of time. This is because the appliance consists of the Fan or the Blower that is meant to circle the air around and the Water Engine that is meant to circle the water around. Both these segments are responsible for collective noise that can escalate to disturbing levels and lead to massive disturbances for many users.

6. The use of an Air cooler can lead to allergy and asthma over a long period of time

This has been a major concern among various users, where closed space touchiness with the appliance can trigger asthma or allergy. This is generally due to the presence and the growth of moulds, germs, and other pathogens within the appliance.

7. One needs to ensure that the area of the used air cooler is well-ventilated and quite ‘roomy

Since it is a noisy machine and can lead to a good amount of pathogens growing within the appliance, one needs to make sure that the space about is ‘roomy’ enough. Also, the noise and rapid air circulation can get uncomfortable if the space is small and confined. This is a major problem as closed or poor ventilation can lead to inefficient air circulation within the space around; thus, the cooling effect can be ‘not so good.’ After the increased humidity levels, the water droplets will not be able to ‘transform’ into gas as the evaporation process will increasingly decline with time. This can result in the failed process of evaporation, which can result in ineffective cooling over a period of time.

8. These can attract plenty of mosquitoes

This is mainly because the mosquitoes tend to breed happily in stagnant water, which is a major feature of the Air cooler. This requires the user to ensure that rapid changing of water within the tank takes place.

9. It is a lot of work

Considering its construction and working, one needs to continue to work relentlessly to ensure that the water has changed on time and the appliance is clean and well-maintained as required. This is not only for the purpose of timely working of the Air cooler but also for ensuring good health and maintenance.

Disadvantages of an Air Cooler: The Conclusion

Hence, now you see these are the disadvantages of evaporative cooling that can lead to massive health issues and also aggravate already existing health issues like asthma and allergies. Also, the massive noise from the Air cooler is another factor that can distress people suffering from heart-related issues. Hence, weigh your pros and cons properly before you finally decide to purchase the appliance.
